The judge hit her Golden Buzzer for Gabriel Henrique, a 27-year-old singer from Brazil who stunned the audience with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You” on Tuesday night’s episode.
Gabriel, who was visiting the United States for the first time and had a translator on stage with him, said he was “realizing a dream” to be on the show. He then proceeded to deliver a flawless performance that showcased his powerful vocals and impressive range.
The judges and the crowd gave him a standing ovation, and Sofia was visibly moved by his talent. “I don’t have words. That was so perfect, spectacular,” she told him. “Your voice is beautiful, your energy, who you are, it was perfect.”
She added that she had been waiting for “that feeling” all season, and that Gabriel was the one who gave it to her. She then pressed her Golden Buzzer, sending him straight to the live shows and showering him with confetti.
Gabriel was overcome with emotion and hugged his translator and Sofia, who congratulated him and told him he had them “dying over here.”
The other judges also praised Gabriel’s performance, with Simon Cowell saying he sounded like “the best and finest pop diva there ever was.” Heidi Klum said he was “incredible” and Howie Mandel said he was “very important.”
Gabriel is the fifth and final Golden Buzzer act of the season, joining host Terry Crews’ pick World Taekwondo Demonstration Team, Howie’s pick Northwell Health Nurse Choir, Heidi’s pick Lea Kyle, and Simon’s pick Nightbirde.
